the adventures of Zhuli in Zhongguo

at the end of our short term trip to china in may, tucker and i (along with the rest of the group) left our friend julie alone on the steps of a hotel in beijing as we rushed off to catch our flight back to america. she was to meet up with her CET program three weeks later and a few hundred miles further northeast. at this point julie, having never really been outside of rural maine before this trip to china, was still more or less unable to cross the busy city streets without tucker and i on either side of her dragging her along and trying to keep her from screaming too much. four long months went by wherein none of us had heard a word from her. finally, on october 5th, a few of us received the following email messages from her: and as a special bonus, i've included a link to the essay that she wrote for the CET website (scroll down about a third of the way)
